LOGAN, Utah — The BYU’s women’s gymnastics team earned two Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference accolades in week nine. Sophomore Sophie Dudley earned her first-ever MRGC award as Co-Floor Specialist of the Week, and senior Anyssa Alvarado earned her third Co-Bars Specialist of the Week honor this season.
BYU competed in two meets last week, one of which was the final home meet of the season on Wednesday, March 1 against Alaska. The Cougars posted a 196.350 to beat the Seawolves. On Friday, March 3, BYU traveled to Ohio to take on the No. 16 Buckeyes where they fell 196.575 to 195.575.
Dudley notched a new career-high score of 9.925 with her fun floor routine against the Seawolves Wednesday morning, solidifying her MRGC honors. Also earning scores of 9.925 and sharing the accolade with Dudley are Boise State’s Courtney Blackson and SUU’s Karley McClain. Dudley has earned scores above a 9.800 on floor in seven out of 10 meets this season.
Alvarado earned a 9.900 on the bars against the Ohio State Buckeyes to earn Co-Bars Specialist of the Week honors alongside Boise State’s Emily Lopez, SUU’s Shylen Murakami and Utah State’s Brianna Brooks. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native has earned three MRGC accolades this season, five in her BYU career.
