Cougs set for 2023 ITA DI Women's Mountain Regional Championships

BYU Women's Tennis is gearing up for the 2023 ITA DI Women's Mountain Regional Championships in Salt Lake City, commencing this Wednesday. The championships will be hosted by the University of Utah and will include both singles and doubles draws for the participating athletes.

SALT LAKE CITY — BYU women's tennis is gearing up for the 2023 ITA DI Women's Mountain Regional Championships in Salt Lake City, commencing this Wednesday. The championships will be hosted by the University of Utah and will include both singles and doubles draws for the participating athletes.

BYU will mark its first set of matches this fall to be held in the state of Utah. The Cougars' singles and doubles matches are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, from October 18th to the 20th.

The Cougars

Jacque Dunyon

Hailing from Huntsville, Utah, the junior has a 1-3 record in singles and an impressive 3-2 record in doubles during the 2023 fall season.

Bobo Huang

Huang, a junior captain from Guangzhou, China, is making her return to matches since her appearance at the ITA All-American Championships. She went 0-2 in singles and 0-2 in doubles with Emilee Astle at the event. 

Kendal Kovick

The junior from Henderson, Nevada, is 2-3 in singles and 0-1 in doubles this fall after transferring from West Virginia.

Tina Li

Li, a sophomore from Auckland, New Zealand, is back after a successful freshman campaign with 15 singles victories and 11 doubles victories in 2022-23 for BYU. She currently stands at 4-2 in singles and 3-2 in doubles this fall.

Avery Pope

Hailing from Provo, Utah, the junior showcases a 1-3 record in singles and an impressive 5-2 record in doubles in 2023.

Maddy Smith

A junior from Henderson, Nevada, Smith is off to a strong start with a 5-2 record in singles and a 1-3 record in doubles this fall. She was also honored as a 2023 Bedford Cup Bravo draw finalist after going 3-0 in singles in Colorado Springs. 

Kara Wheatley

The senior from Hong Kong, China, is having success with a 1-1 record in singles and a remarkable 3-0 record in doubles this fall.

Coaching Staff

Head coach Holly Hasler is in her sixth season at BYU, entering the year with a 58-46 all-time record with the Cougars.

Assistant coach Gabby Curtis, in her third season with the Cougars, played collegiately at USC, amassing 72 career singles wins and 73 career doubles victories during her time with the Trojans from 2015-2017.

Athletes from the following schools will be competing in the Invitational: Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Northern Arizona, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming.
