Strength of Schedule
BYU’s 2024 campaign features six teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament a season ago, including West Virginia, Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Miami.
Oklahoma State and Miami both achieved 1-seeds and hosted NCAA Regionals in Stillwater, Oklahoma and Coral Gables, Florida, respectively. The Cowboys were upset by Dallas Baptist in game three of the regional while Miami fell to Texas in game six. The six-time national champion Longhorns advanced to the super regional as a No. 2 seed before falling to Stanford.
Texas finished the 2023 season ranked 14th and Miami 20th in the final D1Baseball.com poll.
Big 12 counterpart TCU won the league title in 2023 and advanced to the College World Series where it eventually came up short to national runner-up Florida.
The Cougars in 2024
BYU finished the 2023 season with a 24-28 record, including 13-14 in West Coast Conference play to finish seventh. The Cougars enter 2024 looking to fill the shoes of All-American third baseman Austin Deming and centerfielder Cole Gambill, while boasting the return of All-WCC honorees Cooper Vest (first base), Boston Mabeus (LHP) and Luke Anderson (outfield).
BYU also added 19 newcomers during the offseason, including seasoned transfers Crew Robinson (UC San Diego, IF/OF), Candon Dahle (College of Southern Idaho, RHP), Stone Cushing (College of Southern Idaho, RHP) and Chipper Beck (IF, Salt Lake Community College). Max Stanley (Parker, Colorado, RHP), Maddax Peck (Riverton, Utah, RHP) and Ryker Schow (Pleasant Grove, Utah, IF/OF) headline BYU’s 11 incoming true freshmen.
