IRVING, Texas — Seven student-athletes from the BYU men's cross country team were named to the 2023 Fall Academic All-Big 12 First Team the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
To be named to the First Team, student-athletes achieved a 3.20 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and competed in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests.
"We take great pride in our academics at BYU," said director of track and field/cross country Ed Eyestone. "For our team to have finished third at the national meet is just a continuation of our excellence on the cross country field. I think that these honorees also indicate that we are not one dimensional and that our student-athletes truly are high performing students."
Oklahoma State led the conference in male athletes named to the First Team (14), followed by Kansas (12), Iowa State (9), Texas (9), BYU (7), Cincinnati (7), TCU (7), Kansas State (6), Baylor (5), Texas Tech (5), Oklahoma (4) and Houston (3).
