NEW ORLEANS — Aubrey Frentheway, Anastaysia Davis and the BYU women's cross country team earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the organziation announced Feb. 1.
Student-athletes must achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships, or as an All-American (top-40) at the NCAA Championships to qualify for the USTFCCCA'S individual All-Academic honors.
A mathematics education major, Frentheway earned her fourth-consecutive All-Academic honor, the most in BYU women's cross country history. Frentheway also earned her fourth career All-America honor as she placed 14th at the NCAA Championships. The senior from Cheyenne, Wyoming wraps up her collegiate cross county career as the second-most decorated BYU women's cross country athlete of all-time behind only to five-time All-American Elizabeth Jackson (1995-99).
Junior Anastaysia Davis earned her first All-Academic award in cross country. A native of Flower Mound Texas, Davis is is an elementary education major with a 3.93 GPA. Davis ran 20:16.6 to place 25th at the NCAA Mountain Regional and earn All-Region honors.
Team-wide academic honors are given to teams with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
2023 BYU women's cross country garnered the team academic citation with a combined GPA of 3.178. This marks the Cougars' first such award since 2020 when the program earned USTFCCCA National Scholar Team of the Year.
Success in the classroom correlated with success on the course this past season for the Cougars as they won BYU's first-ever Big 12 championship across all sports and earned their eighth-consecutive top-15 finish at the NCAA Championships.
Frentheway wraps up her time in a BYU uniform this indoor track season as Davis will have one more year to compete in cross country.
