Women’s swim sets two pool records on day one versus Utah

PROVO, Utah — Mackenzie Lung helped BYU women’s swimming to two Richards Building Pool records as the Cougars opened the weekend versus Utah on Friday afternoon. 

Lung led BYU individuals with nine points on the day while helping the 200 medley relay “A” squad secure a winning 11 points to start the meet. Emma Marusakova, Lung, Tahis Ibanez and Halli Williams combined to clock a pool-record 1:40.19 and win the relay over Utah by nearly a second. The previous record of 1:41.88 was set in 2020.

Lung then capped the day with a new personal best in the 100 breast at a winning 1:00.97. The sophomore from Clovis, California was just five-hundredths of a second shy of surpassing Katie McBratney for the program’s 100 breast record.

Liza Slade, Marusakova and Williams each added runner-up finishes for BYU on Friday. Slade went 55.87 in the 100 back, Marusakova 2:04.61 in the 200 individual medley and Williams gave BYU four more points with a 22.82 in the 50 free.

Following Friday’s competition, the Cougars have 56.5 points to Utah’s 93.5. Events resume on Saturday at 11 a.m. MST.
