Women's swim and dive takes fifth at Big 12 Championships

BYU women’s swim and dive scored 771.5 points to finish fifth at its inaugural Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships with Victoria Schreiber, Mackenzie Lung and Emma Marusakova recording all-conference performances as the meet closed on Saturday at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — BYU women’s swim and dive scored 771.5 points to finish fifth at its inaugural Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships with Victoria Schreiber, Mackenzie Lung and Emma Marusakova recording all-conference performances as the meet closed on Saturday at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

The Cougars come away from year one in the Big 12 with eight all-conference second team performers.

“All of our athletes were troopers through the adversity we faced this week,” said BYU head swimming coach Shari Skabelund. “We will build on everything we learned about this meet for next year. As a coaching staff, we are really proud of our team’s ability to rally and support each other.”

Schreiber battled through the 1650 free to set a personal-best 16:43.49 and score 24 points for the Cougars with a sixth-place finish. The junior from Brighton, Michigan secured a second team all-conference spot while edging TCU’s Sydney Inman and Houston’s Eden Humphrey for sixth.

Lung added another second team finish with a 2:11.95 to come in sixth in the 200 breast. The sophomore from Clovis, California clipped over a second off her preliminary time to beat Nina Vadovicova of TCU and Julie Rose of Cincinnati to the wall.

Emma Marusakova added another 23 points to BYU’s total with a 200 back time of 1:58.05 for a seventh-place finish.

Julia Bartell, Tatum Cooley, Emma Marusakova and Halli Williams finished the meet with a 3:22.00 for fifth and 50 points in the 400 free relay.

Alexia Jackson finished her week with a 307.25 for 10th in the 3-meter diving final. The sophomore from Mesa, Arizona led all BYU women with 54 individual points scored.

Victoria Schreiber was BYU’s second-leader with 51 points, followed by Regan Geldmacher with 39, Halli Williams with 38 and 36 a-piece from Mackenzie Lung and Emma Marusakova.
