SAN DIEGO — Aaron Wood and Jaden Roskelley placed third and fourth, respectively, in the decathlon as Zoey Bonds and Cameron Bird placed second and fourth in the heptathlon Friday at the Aztec Multis.

Aaron Wood and Jaden Roskelley placed third and fourth, respectively, in the decathlon as Zoey Bonds and Cameron Bird placed second and fourth in the heptathlon Friday at the Aztec Multis in San Diego.
Men's Recap
Wood placed third for the Cougars, garnering 6,259 points throughout the 10-event competition. On day two he ran 16.91 in the 110-meter hurdles, threw 27.92 m/91-7 in the discus, jumped 4.65m/15-3 in the pole vault, threw 40.16m/131-9 in the javelin and ran 4:47.70 in the 1500m.
Roskelley placed fourth overall despite only scoring points in nine events and totaling 6,201 overall points. He ran 15.04 in the 110m hurdles, threw 43.98m/144-3 to win the discus, jumped 3.55m/11-7.75 for a new personal best in the pole vault, tossed 48.68m/159-8 in the javelin and finished the competition running 5:06.71 in the 1500m.
Women's Recap
Bonds earned a new personal-best score in the heptathlon at 4,941, besting her previous best by nearly 400 points. The sophomore long jumped 5.33m/17-6, threw the javelin 31.06m/101-11 and ran a new personal best of 2:31.95 in the 800m on day two of the competition to finish second overall.
Bird also earned a personal-best heptathlon score with 4,688 points, beating her previous best by 173 points. On day two of the seven-event competition, she long jumped 5.09m/16-8.5, threw the javelin 31.91m/104-8 and ran the 800m in 2:28.53 for a new personal best in the 800m.
Freshman Brinnlee Wilde finished in ninth place scoring, 4,243 points in her first-ever heptathlon. Wilde long jumped 4.93m/16-2.25, tossed the javelin to 27.83m/91-3 and ran the 800m in 2:40.19.
"The combined event athletes did remarkably well in their season opener. Zoey Bonds, Cami, Bird and Brinnlee Wilde all came away with personal bests in multiple events and in their overall score. On the men’s side, Jaden and Aaron opened up with a great meet. If Jaden would not have had a shoe malfunction in high jump, he would be challenging the 7,000 point barrier, which is amazing for a freshman. All in all, I am very proud of the group."
