Cougars represent at Utah Open

Current and former Cougar golfers completed the final round of the 54-hole Utah Open Sunday afternoon at Riverside Country Club.

PROVO, Utah –Current and former Cougar golfers completed the final round of the 54-hole Utah Open Sunday afternoon at Riverside Country Club.

Former Cougar and current PGA tour player Patrick Fishburn finished runner-up at the Utah Open. He shot a 17-under 199 with scores of 69-64-66. On day one, he made four birdies with eight birdies and no bogeys during his second round. Fishburn began his final round with three consecutive birdies enroute to a 5-under 31 on the front side. He carded a sixth birdie on the 14th hole to cap a second strike, bogey free round of 66. 

Rising senior Zac Jones finished tied for seventh at this weekend’s tournament. He carded five birdies on holes one, two, three, 10 and 11 for a day one score of 3-under 69. Jones made seven birdies in the second round with three on the front nine and four on the back nine to post a 5-under 67. In his final round, he carded six birdies to record a 4-under 68 to finish at 12-under for the championship.

The 2024 Utah Amateur champion Cole Ponich also tied for seventh at the Utah Open. He finished 12-under with scores of 67-67-70. He carded the second-most birdies on day one with eight, five of which were on the front nine. In Ponich’s second round, he carded six birdies, and then went on to record three birdies in his third and final round.

Cooper Jones finished at 9-under with scores of 67-72-68 for a top 20 finish. He carded eight birdies in his first round to boost his score after three bogeys. He recorded three birdies in his second round and made six birdies in his final round.

Tyson Shelley finished in the top 20 and recorded scores of 72-69-67 to round out a total score of 8-under 208. His highlights included three birdies in round one, four birdies in round two and six birdies and an eagle in round three.

Incoming sophomore Peter Kim finished the Utah Open tied for 29th. He shot a 6-under 210 with scores of 67-75-68. Kim made six birdies in round one, four birdies in round two and five birdies in round three.

Simon Kwon finished at even par this weekend with a 216 total and scores of 69-73-74. On day one, he birdied five holes with four coming on the back nine. He went on to make four birdies in round two and three birdies in round three.

Former BYU golfer Carson Lundell finished the three rounds T-7 with 12-under 204 and scores of 68-70-66.

Former Cougar Zac Blair completed the Utah Open in a tie for 7th. He recorded a score of 12-under 204, with scores of 70-66-68.

Recent BYU graduate Keanu Akina finished this week’s tournament 5-under 211 with scores of 70-70-71.

Utah Women’s Open champion Adeline Wach got an exemption to compete at this weekend’s tournament due to her win. She unfortunately did not qualify for day three, but recorded a day one score of 7-over 79 and a day two score of 9-over 81.
