ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – BYU women’s golf shot a 5-over 293 in the final round to finish sixth at the Dick McGuire Invitational on Tuesday.
Sophomore Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan recorded a top-10 finish after posting a 1-over 217 total for the 54-hole tournament. She led the Cougars with scores of 70-72-75—217. Barragan made three birdies in each of the first two rounds and finished with two birdies on the final day to secure the first top-10 finish of her career.
Long Beach State (284-299-280–863; -8) took home the team title after posting a 1-under par total to finish six shots ahead of second-place UNLV (288-288-293—869; +5). Pepperdine (294-291-288–873; +9) rounded out the top three teams with a total score of 9-over-par.
Sunbin Seo finished tied for 19th after recording three birdies en route to a 2-under final round. Seo recorded scores of 77-75-70–222 for a 6-over-par total.
Whitney Banz carded scores of 72-78-76–226 to finish the tournament at 10-over. She finished tied for 34th.
Junior Lily McCauley and freshman Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul both finished tied for 55th after shooting 14-over. McCauley carded scores of 77-81-72–230 and Aramkul posted rounds of 72-80-78–230.
The Cougars will tee it up next at the Red Raider Invitational, hosted by Big 12 foe Texas Tech at The Rawls Course from Sept. 24-25.
