BYU to begin season at Arizona Hidden Dual

BYU women's tennis is set to kick off the official 2024 season with three dual matches at the Arizona Hidden Dual, hosted by the University of Arizona. The Cougars will face the Wildcats, Michigan State and Missouri in this weekend's series.

PROVO, Utah - BYU women's tennis is set to kick off the official 2024 season with three dual matches at the Arizona Hidden Dual, hosted by the University of Arizona. The Cougars will face the Wildcats, Michigan State and Missouri in this weekend's series.

The Hidden Dual starts with BYU taking on Arizona on Friday at 2:00 pm. The day concludes with BYU facing Missouri in doubles at 5:00 pm.

On Saturday, the Cougars will continue their matchup against the Tigers in singles at 9:00 am. Later in the day, BYU will wrap up the Hidden Dual against Michigan State at 4:30 pm.

All matches at Arizona will be held at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. Follow @byuwtennis on social media for live updates, and visit byucougars.com for results throughout the weekend.

BYU Notes

  • Head Coach Holly Hasler begins her sixth season, boasting a record of 58-47.
  • Hasler is assisted by Gabby Curtis, entering her third season.
  • Junior Bobo Huang will look to make an immediate impact during the 2024 dual season after recently being named the Big 12 Player of the Week
  • BYU welcomes three new additions in time for the 2024 spring season: Kendall Kovick, Kaavya Sawhney and Bitsty Tullis. Kovick posted a 24-37 recording during her first collegiate season in 2021-22; making her way into the No. 1 singles position at West Virginia. Sawhney brings 63 career singles wins and 72 career doubles victories from UNC Charlotte and Tullis recently returned home from serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Las Vegas, Nevada and Lima, Peru. 

Arizona Notes

  • The Wildcats begin their season today against UC San Diego and Grand Canyon in Phoenix.
  • Arizona went 17-13 last season, with 11 wins at home.
  • The team finished ninth in the Pac-12 last season and had a first-round Pac-12 Tournament victory over No. 48-ranked Utah. 
  • The Wildcats are led by Ryan Stotland, who enters his sixth season at the helm.

Missouri Notes

  • The Tigers are 0-2 with losses against Grand Canyon and Illinois to open the season. 
  • Bianca Turati begins her first official season as head coach of Missouri women's tennis after serving as the interim head coach in 2023.  
  • Missouri went 11-16 last season, with zero wins on the road.
  • The team finished 13th in the SEC last season.
  • Mae Canete and Christene Canete currently rank as the No. 16th doubles tandem in the nation.
