Cougs head to Hawaii for Weinman Foundation Invitational

The BYU women's tennis team is set to kick off its 2024 season on Wednesday, January 3, in Hawaii. The Cougars will be participating in the Weinman Foundation Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai'i, where they will face tough competition from the Rainbow Wahine, California Berkeley, Florida State, and North Carolina State.

BYU Notes

The Cougars concluded the previous season with a 13-9 record, securing the No. 75 spot in the final 2023 ITA Poll. Senior captain Emilee Astle returns for her final season, boasting a career of 40 singles victories and 45 doubles victories with BYU. Sophomore Tina Li, who led the team with 15 singles victories in 2023, also returns. Head coach Holly Hasler, entering her sixth season, holds a 58-47 all-time record at BYU, assisted by Gabby Curtis, who is in his third season.

Hawai'i Notes

The Rainbow Wahine achieved a 14-8 record last season, including a notable 6-4 home record. They were crowned 2023 Big West Champions. Jun Hernandez, entering his 19th season as head coach, holds a 182-194 all-time record with the Rainbow Wahine and was named the 2023 Big West Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.

California Notes

The Golden Bears finished the previous season 12-10, securing the No. 34 spot in the final ITA poll. They claimed a third-place finish in the Pac-12 Conference. Amanda Augustus, in her 17th season as head coach, holds a 280-101 all-time record with the Golden Bears and was the 2016 National Coach of the Year.

Florida State Notes

The Seminoles wrapped up the last season with a 17-11 record, including an 8-8 away record. They finished 2023 ranked No. 24 in the final ITA poll, with a second-round finish in the NCAA Tournament. Jennifer Hyde, in her 20th season as head coach, holds a 358-249 all-time record with the Seminoles and has led the program to 16 NCAA Tournament Appearances.

NC State Notes

The Wolfpack had an outstanding 28-5 record last season, including a 7-3 away record, finishing as the runner-up at the NCAA Championships and securing the 2023 ACC title. Simon Earnshaw, entering his 10th season as head coach, holds a 178-81 all-time record with the Wolfpack and led NC State to their winningest season in program history with 28 wins in 2023.
