PROVO, Utah — BYU track and field hosted the 12th annual Courageous Kids Invitational at the Robison Track and Field Complex on Thursday night, celebrating children special needs in the community.

The Courageous Kids Invitational aims to provide children with medical conditions and their families an opportunity to mingle with BYU athletes and join them in a variety of kid-friendly track and field events.

"The Courageous Kids Invitational is an amazing event where we celebrate some amazing kids that have gone or are going through some very hard challenges," said BYU director of track and field Ed Eyestone. "The families behind these children also are incredible. I'm very grateful for my athletes to interact with these remarkable people at an event like this."

Tammy (Kirby) Bowers, a former BYU pole vaulter (2000-02), teamed-up with the Cougar track and field program to found the event in 2011. Bowers and former BYU multi-athlete Marsha Mark (1996-98) have combined to organize Courageous Kids nearly each year since.

The 2024 invitatational celebrated Liam Losee, a 10-year old who has down syndrome. Liam enjoys running and competing in the annual event. This year's motto that came from Liam was 'Always Looking Forward'.
