"I think we are on a good flow right now," said head coach Ed Eyestone. "I'm excited. Everything from here on out is just pointing towards nationals. The NCAA Mountain Regional is an important step in that process. We want to run as hard as we need to qualify, but not any harder than that. I'm looking forward to giving some of our eight, ninth and tenth guys a chance to run. We are approaching this like it would be a preliminary or qualifying round."
The Cougars are headed into race-day as Big 12 Champions, taking the overall team win at the conference meet just two weeks prior. The team posted 41 points in the contest with all five scoring runners finishing in the top-12.
BYU is ranked No. 1 in the USTFCCCA National Coaches poll for the first time this season. Conference rival and defending NCAA National Champions Oklahoma State moved to No. 2, while fellow Big 12 program Iowa State maintains the fourth place spot.
"After conference we made sure to be extra focused on recovery and staying hungry for the national meet," said senior Creed Thompson. "We had some really good and really hard workouts last week that will prepare us to be tough at nationals. The goal for regionals is to punch our ticket to Madison with minimal effort, which might mean resting a few of the top guys."
