PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s basketball signee Xavion Staton is one of 50 players named to the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Boy’s High School Player of the Year Preseason Watch List, the organization announced on Thursday.
Staton, a 7-foot center from Las Vegas, Nev., is the highest recruit signee in program history with a 247Sports composite score of 0.9883. The consensus four-star recruit is the top-rated recruit in the state of Nevada and considered the top rim protecting center in the Class of 2025.

He was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Nevada Boys Basketball Player of the Year after leading Sierra Vista High School to a 23-9 record and Class 4A state championship. The First Team All-Desert League selection averaged 13.8 points, 14.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.
The undefeated Cougars return to the hardwood on Saturday, Nov. 16, when they host Idaho at the Marriott Center. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.
