PROVO, Utah — In collaboration with BYU Athletics, the BYU Sorenson Center For Moral & Ethical Leadership hosted "Acknowledge" as a Juneteenth celebration for the community on Friday, June 14 evening at Helaman Fields, with a gallery walk, lawn games, performances and speeches.

Whitney Johnson Catt, BYU's associate athletic director for student-athlete development, diversity and inclusion, delivered a keynote speech focused on African American history and her personal relationship to Juneteenth.

In addition to BYU Athletics, the Sorenson Center partnered with BYU's Black Student Union and the BYU Psychology Deparment to put on the community event. Registered guests received a t-shirt and dinner from Kafe Mamai, an African-Caribbean fusion.

Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.
