BYU heads to Sherwood Collegiate Cup for second week of fall play

Men’s tennis will play its second tournament of the fall season in Thousand Oaks, Calif. on September 20th-21 at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – BYU men’s tennis will play its second tournament of the fall season in Thousand Oaks on September 20-21 at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup. 

The Cougars will send four athletes to compete: Redd Owen, Tygen Goldammer, Adam Chodur and Hardy Owen. 

All four players appeared in the Dar Walters Classic last weekend. The Cougars posted nine wins including an undefeated singles outing for Goldammer while H. Owen made his collegiate debut. R. Owen recorded a third-place finish in double with David Duong along with Chodur winning out the consolation section of the bracket with Alex Edmonston

Event Information

Location: Thousand Oaks, California

Venue: Sherwood Country Club

Start Times: Doubles will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday and singles will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Schools Competing (8): BYU, LMU, New Mexico, SMU,  Pacific, California, Pepperdine and USC.

Goldammer and H. Owen will repeat as a doubles team this weekend. They picked up one mini-dual win against Weber State at the Dar Walters Classic. 

R. Owen and Chodur will play as a team for the first time. Chodur is making his second appearance as a Cougar with R. Owen starting his third year. After combining for five wins between their pairings last weekend they will look to build upon that success this weekend.

The tournament will feature two days of dual-style play. 

Friday:

BYU matches up in the first doubles against California at 9:00 a.m and then again at noon against the University of Pacific. They will play singles later in the day at 1:00 p.m. playing against the University of Pacific in singles as well. 

Saturday:

BYU plays SMU in doubles at 9:00 a.m. and singles at noon. The Cougars then match up with LMU in singles at 3:15 p.m.
