IRVING, Texas — For the 10th time this season, Delaney Gibb was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.

Gibb is just the second player in Big 12 history to earn 10 or more weekly freshman awards, joining Kansas State's Ayoka Lee who received the honor 12 times in 2019-20. The freshman phenom scored a career-high 36 points against Utah on Saturday, the most points scored by a BYU player since Cassie Broadhead Devashrayee scored 36 against the Utes on Dec. 9, 2017.

Between Gibb and Kambree Barber, BYU players have now accounted for 10 of the last 11 Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards, with Gibb receiving nine and Barber earning her first on Feb. 3 after her first career double-double against ASU.

Gibb was brilliant once again for the Cougars as they took on the Kansas Jayhawks and Utah Utes this week. The freshman averaged 22 points on 51.6 percent shooting, 46.7 percent from three and 83.3 percent from the line. Gibb also tallied 9.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game on the week.

Against Utah, Gibb played 44 minutes and four seconds of the 45 minutes of game time, a new career high, in which time she led all scorers with 36 points and 10 rebounds to notch her second-career double-double. The freshman went 13-for-18 from the floor (72.2 percent), 5-of-7 from downtown (71.4 percent) and 5-for-6 from the stripe. She also led BYU in assists with five, while recording two steals and a block.

Gibb's 36 points against the Utes are tied for the fourth most points by a freshman in a single game this season. Her career-high 36 is also tied for the third most points by a Big 12 freshman in a single game since the 1999-2000 season.

Despite a below-average shooting performance against Kansas that yielded eight points, Gibb still found ways to impact the game for the Cougars. The Raymond, Alberta, Canada native led BYU in rebounds and assists with eight boards and six dimes, respectively.

At the close of the regular season, Gibb and the Cougars now turn their attention to the Big 12 Championship in Kansas City where they will face the UCF Knights in the opening game of the tournament on Wednesday, March 5. The game will tip at 11 a.m. CT and be streamed on ESPN+. Fans can also tune in to BYU Radio for play-by-play with Jason Shepherd.
