AUSTIN, Texas — With play suspended due to darkness, BYU women’s golf finished day one of the Betsy Rawls Invitational in eighth at 65-over par at UT Golf Club Monday with one hole to go. 

“Super tough golf course,” head coach Carrie Roberts said. “Wind chill was 29, only as high as 39, and wind was blowing 30 miles per hour.”

The Cougars bounced back with a 35-stroke improvement in round two from their round one score. 

Three of the teams in the top-5 from Monday rank No. 10 or higher on Scoreboard. Host No. 7 Texas led the way at 17-over par with two holes left to play in round two. The Longhorns had four players end up in the top-10, including three in the top-5. Texas held the lowest scoring average on every hole on the day and led all teams in made birdies with 21. No. 9 Arkansas posted a 32-over par to put itself 15 strokes behind the Longhorns in second. LSU finished Monday at 37-over par and in third with one hole to go. Oklahoma concluded its day in fourth at 42-over par and no. 10 Pepperdine recorded a 44-over par to round out the top-5. 

Lily McCauley led the way for the Cougars, being the only one inside the top-25 at 12-over par and tied for 22nd. McCauley made one of three total eagles out of all players in the field.

Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan was the only BYU player to not finish the second round. With one hole to play, she wrapped up today at 15-over par and tied for 30th. 

Whitney Banz completed her two rounds with a share of 43rd at 19-over par

Berlin Long had the best second round of any Cougar that finished play. Long tied for 59th at 23-over par

Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul’s 25-over-par scorecard put her in 66th.
