- Parents are Scott and Karani Wells
- Has three sisters and one brother
- Three-time letterman in soccer in high school
- Also competes in triathlons
- Enjoys boating and wakeboarding
- Served an LDS mission to Micronesia
- Only male BYU swimmer to qualify and compete in 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials
Before BYU
- State champion in the 200 IM
- Named MVP of high school swim team
- Team captain his senior year when his team won the state swimming championship
- Eight-time state champion
- Name high school All-American two times
- Jigh school best times: 100 breast (57.91), 200 IM (1:57.04), 100 free (47.04) and 50 free (21.91)
- Named to the Academic All-State Swim Team
