- Spent the 1976 season as an assistant coach at Arizona State
- Pioneered the baseball program as coach and athletic director at what is now known as Utah Valley State University in Orem where he had records of 2-9 in 1971, 6-14 in 1972, 12-18 in 1973, 19-17 in 1974 and 19-17 in 1975
- Worked with the BYU Varsity Club as an assistant athletic director from 1999-2006, during which time he greatly assisted with the building of Miller Park which opened in 2001
Playing Career
- Spent five years in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization as a player and coach, working with Latin American players
Career Highlights
- Inducted in 2004 to the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame
- President of the ABCA in 1998
- In 1993 helped coach Team USA at the World University Games and in Italy, Cuba and Nicaragua, where the team qualified for the 1994 World Championships
- Served on the Rules Committee and All-America Selection Committee
- Diamond Division I Baseball Coach of the Year in 1985
- District Coach of the Year in 1979, 1981, 1983 and 1985
- BYU team was ranked No. 1 in the nation going into the 1983 NCAA Regionals
- Was a graduate assistant coach at BYU in 1971

- He and his wife Kathy, assistant dean at the J. Reuben Clark Law School, are the parents of four sons: Travis, Micah, Brandt and Taylor
- Kathy is originally from El Paso, Texas and graduated from BYU and from the Law School
