EUGENE -- Oregon completed a three-game baseball sweep over BYU with a 10-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The shutout was BYU’s first in 27 games since a 14-0 loss at Arizona State last season. The Cougars are now 8-7 overall, the same record as Oregon.
BYU managed only three hits and had five runners on base, three of whom advanced to second.
BYU junior Stephen Wells led off with a single in the first and advanced to second on Andrew Law’s groundout. In the fifth, Dane Nielsen hit a two-out single which advanced Brock Luker to second. In the sixth, Alex Wolfe hit a one-out single. And in the ninth, pinch-hitter Alex Hancock was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Oregon set BYU down in order in the second, third, fourth, seventh and eighth innings. BYU senior Ryan Bernal had his current hitting streak stopped at 10 games.
BYU returns from its two-week road stint to the Northwest and will start a three-game series on Thursday evening at Utah in Spring Mobile Ballpark.
