PROVO, Utah – BYU football coaches and players gathered with media members to participate in the eighth annual BYU football Media Day on Friday, June 22, at the BYU Broadcasting Building.

More than 70 members of local and national media registered to attend the event and joined BYU administrators, coaches and players. BYU head coach Kalani Sitake and his assistant coaches were all in attendance. There were also 26 players from the 2018 squad who participated in interviews throughout the day. BYU players did interviews in four languages with Spanish, Portuguese and Korean interviews taking place in addition to English.

The day began with the live broadcast of The State of the Program on BYUtv. Dave McCann discussed the current status of the team and what to expect in the 2018 season with BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe, head coach Kalani Sitake and other members of the coaching staff. Former BYU player Trevor Matich, who is currently a college football analyst for ESPN, also joined in on the discussion.

During the show, Holmoe announced the installation of Wi-Fi in Lavell Edwards Stadium that will be used in conjunction with a gameday app to magnify the experience for fans who attend the games. The app will allow fans to watch highlights, listen to the radio call, view live stats and connect to social media.

BYUtv provided 13 consecutive hours of football programming throughout the day, including a two-hour special of BYU Sports Nation which featured interviews with coaches and players. Greg Wrubell followed with a two-hour broadcast of Behind the Mic on BYU Radio.

Cougars in the NFL wrapped up the event and highlighted the experiences of Fred Warner, Jamaal Williams, Bronson Kaufusi and veteran John Denney who are all currently playing in the NFL. The show also provided insights on Ziggy Ansah, Taysom Hill and other former BYU players currently in the NFL.

Throughout the day, more than six million people were reached through social media and #BYUMediaDay was mentioned more than 2,700 times.

The players and coaches report for fall camp on Aug. 1, with the first practice occurring on Aug. 2. The Cougars open the 2018 season at Arizona on Sept. 1 with kickoff at 7:45 p.m. PDT on ESPN.
