The following notes are from BYU's 56-24 victory over UMass at McGuirk Stadium on Nov. 23.

BYU totaled 628 total yards against UMass. It is the second time this season with more than 600 yards in a game (639 at Utah State). The last time BYU had 600 total yards twice in a single season was 2013 (679 vs. Texas, 681 vs. Houston).

300/300
BYU passed for 308 yards and rushed for 320 yards. It was BYU’s first 300/300 game against an FBS opponent since a 62-41 win v. Air Force in 2005 (300 run, 383 pass).

Scoring
BYU scored 42 points in the second quarter, the most ever in a quarter at BYU. The previous record was 36, set against Washington State in 1990. The Cougars’ 49 points in the first half tied for second-most ever in a half (51 vs. Savannah State in 2014).

You get a score!
Six different players scored a touchdown against the Minutemen, the most in a game this year. Running back Jackson McChesney had two rushing scores while running back Lopini Katoa had both a rushing and receiving touchdown. Wide receiver Aleva Hifo also had a rushing touchdown whilewide wideouts Talon Shumway and Gunner Romney, along with running back Tyler Allgeier all added receiving touchdowns.

Winning streak
With the win against UMass, BYU won its fifth game in a row. It is the second five-game winning streak under Kalani Sitake and the fourth since going independent (2011, 2013, 2016).  

PLAYER NOTES
Jackson McChesney
Freshman running back Jackson McChesney set a BYU freshman record with 228 rushing yards. He averaged 15.2 yards per carry with just 15 attempts. McChesney’s 228 yards rank No. 6 at BYU for rushing yards in a single game. McChesney also scored two touchdowns. It was just his second career game for the true freshman.

Zach Wilson
Quarterback Zach Wilson completed 17 of 20 passes for 293 yards and four touchdowns – all in the first half, setting personal bests for a half. It is the 15th time a BYU QB has thrown for  four TDs in the first half of a game and 10th different BYU QB to do so. It was the 19th time a BYU QB has thrown four in any half of a game and 11th different QB to do so. The last time was Christian Stewart in the second half at Cal in 2014.

Matt Bushman
Matt Bushman recorded two receptions for 36 yards. His two receptions give him 113 for his career, passing Chad Lewis (111) for No. 6 all-time at BYU in receptions by a tight end.

Dayan Ghanwoloku
With a fumble recovery in the first half, Ghanwoloku set the BYU record for career fumble recoveries (since defensive statistics became official in 2000) with his seventh. He finished the day with a team-leading five tackles and a TFL.
