Quotes

BYU guard Elijah Bryant

On getting in rhythm

"I think we got out of our rhythm in the second half and at some point we got back to our concepts and focused on what we do and not what they do, it kind of got everything back together."

"I think we focused on getting stops first. We tried to get as many stops as we could in the first four minutes and that really fuels us."

On his offensive play against LMU

"My guys were able to find me tonight. I was open and able to hit my shots. They had to double down on Yoeli and that left me open."

On Saturday’s opponent

"We need to focus on what we do more than focusing on who we are playing. We need to get back to our concepts and continue to trust what we do as a team to finish out the season."

BYU forward Yoeli Childs

On LMU’s game plan

"Every team will try to take different things away from you. Tonight they were trying to keep me away from the basket and that left Eli open. This guy (Elijah) had a monster night. The whole team stepped up and played their individual roles to get the win."

On winning mentality

"Summer ball was intense this year. Coach has given us this mentality to win. It’s helped us out a lot."

On team play

"We always emphasize making the extra pass. It is so fun when we are playing like a team. There is nothing better than seeing my teammates succeed, and everyone on the team feels the same way. I love looking over at the bench and seeing reactions from the bench. It’s a team that plays for each other."

BYU head coach Dave Rose

On LMU’s defensive scheme in the second half

"We went into halftime with only two turnovers and we were shooting 60 percent or so from the field, and we were happy about it. But, in the second half LMU came out with a different mindset and game plan. The game got physical and we started to turn the ball over. They make you turn the ball over. That got us in the second half, but we were able to make big plays down the stretch and win the game."

On Saturday’s contest against San Diego

"We look forward to Saturday and playing a really good San Diego team. They have played some of their best games on the road. The challenge will be as good as we have had."

On team chemistry

"There is good chemistry on this team. The team has gone through quite a few changes this season, but they have found a way to become a really good half-court offensive team. They share the ball well and do a good job of taking what the defense gives them. The team looks for each other like some of the really good team’s that we have had at BYU. "

On Jahshire Hardnett

"Jahshire is a valuable piece to the team, especially when we have to guard players that are really quick. Tonight he guarded their point guard in a good match up. He has really helped our team defensively. He was able to help us out offensively tonight too."
