Postgame Quotes

BYU guard Jahshire Hardnett

On his season-high night

"Just playing with confidence. That's the main thing. My teammates did a good job at putting me in situations to score the ball. Elijah came to me and just told me to score the ball. He said he was struggling and I told him to keep shooting, to let that get to him, but he came to me personally and told me it's my time to step up and score a little."

On the big plays at the end of the game to put San Diego away

"The crowd did an amazing job of getting us pumped up. So within those two big plays at the end, it ended up doing it for us."

BYU guard TJ Haws

On how BYU overcame San Diego's runs

"We talked about it at the start of the game that both teams would go on runs. We knew that they were going to go on a run and I thought we did a great job at keeping our poise. We just weathered the storm, kept battling, doing our thing and pulled away."

On his big night

"I'm trying to play with a lot of confidence. If I miss one, I'm trying not to let that affect me. I feel like it has a little bit earlier in the season, so I'm just trying to keep shooting the ball and having confidence."

On San Diego's defensive approach

"You can tell they're a really fundamentally sound defensive team. They know their stuff and had scouted really well. But I feel like if we do what we do offensively, run our stuff, take what the defensive gives and don't predetermine plays, then we're really good offensively. It's just a matter of making the right play and we can get open looks."

BYU head coach Dave Rose

Thoughts on game

"What a good game. A little back and forth, both teams playing hard. I thought that San Diego’s physical presence and their ability to make it hard on us on both ends of the floor was impressive. It was a challenge. Great crowd. I'm happy we got the win and I look forward to next week."

On Haws and Hardnett

"Offensively, they were tremendous, defensively TJ make a lot of plays in the gap as far as getting the ball knocked away. Hardnett was really aggressive offensively. He used his ability and his strength to finish plays. It was good to see TJ out there feeling really confident. I thought that a real turning point in the game in the second half was when Luke came in. They kind of had us on our heals and would get a few stops here and there but it wasn’t the real presence from us.  Luke stood those guys up and Zac did a good job getting contact on rebounds. A great team win."

On San Diego's defense

"No question. Its a good team, just look at their numbers and what they have done. They won five games on the road to this point. It’s a team that has a real identity. Our 3-point shots early were hard to come by and we ended up making seven. I told our guys that they would be the difference in this game."
