Postgame Quotes

BYU guard TJ Haws

On withstanding a late-game surge from the Toreros

It was a good win for us against a really good team. They can make a run at any time so you have to be locked in for 40 minutes. I’m proud of my guys for fighting through the run and finishing tough at the end.

On preparing for tournament play

It’s about playing your hardest every single game. No matter who we play on Saturday we have to be locked in and ready to go. It takes 40 minutes every game. March is a crazy time and lots of crazy things happen. Anybody can beat anybody. We’re taking it one game at a time and one possession at a time, and we’re going to go win very possession.

BYU forward Yoeli Childs

On the physical play tonight

You have to be ready for a dog fight. It was a good tuneup for us on what to expect going into the tournament. It was really important to give it our all and we played for the seniors tonight. I’m proud of the way we fought tonight.

On the team’s momentum heading into the tournament

This team’s been through so much adversity and so many challenges that we know who we are. We know we’re a team who can bounce back and is really good when we’re doing the right things. Everyone’s confidence is sky high right now and we are going in with the attitude that we’re going to win it all. I wish it would come quicker.

BYU head coach Dave Rose

On tonight's game

It was a hard-fought and physical game. I’m glad for our guys to get a big win and some momentum going into the tournament next week. Give San Diego credit. Defensively, they’re a really physical team and they upset what we were trying to do quite a bit.
