The following notes are from BYU men’s basketball 87-73 win over Nicholls State Saturday evening at the Marriott Center in Provo.

Team Notes

Offensive Clinic

BYU led Westminster 63-26 at the break marking the first time the Cougars have scored over 60 points in the opening half since November 25, 2014 when the Cougars took down Chaminade, 121-85 in the second game of the Maui Invitational. The 63 first-half points is good for the fourth best halftime mark in school history.

BYU also notched its highest field goal and three-point percentage of the year to take down the Griffins 100-70 at Vivint Arena. The Cougars shot 54.7 percent going 35-of-64 from the field and 51.4 percent from beyond the arc knocking down a program record 19 threes on the night.

Record from deep

The Cougars finished the evening going 19-of-37 from three-point land to set a new program record for three-point field goals made in a game. BYU hit 13 triples in the first half alone, the second-most in a single half in program history.

Active Hands

The Cougars forced 13 Westminster turnovers in the first half including seven steals which they turned into 21 points to aid the 63-26 halftime lead. BYU causes another nine turnovers in the second half to

Bench Contributions

On a night when BYU eclipsed the century mark, 39 of its 100 points came off the bench with many newcomers seeing their first action of the season.

Tanner Toolson came off the bench to finish with seven points in the first action of his Cougar career. Dallin Hall finished with 12 points, hitting four threes in the win.

Player Notes

Robinson’s perfect half

Jaxson Robinson was a big part of the hot start for BYU as he matched the record for most three-point field goals made in a first half, going 5-of-5 from deep. Robinson joins Jonathan Tavernari (vs. Air Force, 02/13/2010) and Anson Winder Buffalo, (12/20/2011) as the only Cougars to knock down five triples in a half.

George and Waterman's efficient night

Gideon George and Noah Waterman each finished 5-of-6 from the floor on the night. Waterman was perfect from behind the arc going 3-of-3 to finish with 13 points

George finished with 15 points, went 2-of-3 from deep and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe with two assists and two steals to lift the Cougars over the Griffins.
