Cougars in 13th place at Goodwin

SAN FRANCISCO — Behind a 70 from CJ Lee in the second round of The Goodwin, No. 36 BYU men's golf sits in 13th place on Friday as teams head into the third and final round.

"We played more consistently as a team today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said, "Unfortunately, we didn't move up the leaderboard. We are struggling with the greens and just aren't making enough putts. I hope we can have our best round of the tournament tomorrow."

The Cougars fired a team score of 285 (+1) on Friday and are at +6 through 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament. Oklahoma sits atop the leaderboard at -20, shooting -15 in round two. West Coast Conference foes Saint Mary's and San Francisco are in ninth and 10th place, respectively, and in-state rival Utah is in 19th place at +16.

Lee carded 33 on the front nine, birdying holes 1, 4, 8 and 9. The senior followed up with a 37 on the back nine. Lee is tied for 65th place at +4.

Peter Kuest is tied for 18th place at -1. After carding a 68 on Thursday, Kuest fired a 73 in round two. The sophomore made the turn with an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole to shoot 34 on the front nine and finished with a 39 on the back nine.

After shooting even par in round one, Patrick Fishburn carded even par again in round two. Fishburn birdied two holes on Friday and is tied for 27th place.

Rhett Rasmussen and Spencer Dunaway are tied for 57th place and 94th place, respectively. Rasmussen shot even par on Saturday, while Dunaway shot +2. 

BYU men's golf will play the third and final round of The Goodwin at Harding Park Golf Course on Saturday. Groupings in the morning wave will tee off on holes 1 and 10 at 7:30 a.m. PDT and the afternoon group will begin at noon.
