LIHUE, Hawai'i – Peter Kuest led BYU men's golf into first place after one round of the John A. Burns Invitational Thursday at Wailua Golf Course.

"It was nice to get off to a good start today in Hawaii," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "The guys played really well down the stretch on the most difficult holes to finish."

Kuest's score of 66 (-6) tied him with Daniel Kolar of Washington State for the best first round score among the field of 114 golfers. He bagged an eagle, five birdies and just one bogey on the day.

The Cougars posted an eight-under 280 to lead a field that includes eight top-50 teams. They finished one stroke ahead of second-place Texas A&M.

Rhett Rasmussen (70, -2), Chad Hardy (72, E) and Carson Lundell (72, E) all finished day one among the top 31 golfers. Kelton Hirsch rounded out BYU's five with a 79 (+7).

All teams will play round two tomorrow and the final round on Saturday. Live stats and a leaderboard are available at GolfStat.com.
