Kuest shoots two-under on first day of The Goodwin

STANFORD, Calif. – Peter Kuest shot two-under to lead BYU men's golf on the first day of The Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course.

"Peter (Kuest) played extremely well today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "Other than that, we struggled and missed some putts. We need to make more tomorrow if we are going to improve."

Kuest's first-round performance placed him tied for fourth among the field of 135 golfers. Rhett Rasmussen finished the day at four-over.

Kelton Hirsch (+5) and Carson Lundell (+8) rounded out the scoring for the Cougars. Playing in his first tournament of the spring, Brock Stanger posted a 10-over.

BYU wound up tied for 17th place with an overall score of 295 (+15). Washington finished atop the leaderboard with a 278 (-2). Tied for fifth place, Santa Clara (+7) led the six representatives from the West Coast Conference.

San Francisco (+8, eighth place) and Pepperdine (+13, tied for 13th place) also finished the round ahead of the Cougars. Saint Mary's (+16) and San Diego (+23) sat in 21st and 25th, respectively.
