WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — After having its second round cut short due to darkness, the BYU men’s golf team finished day one of the Southwestern Invitational in 10th place.

The Cougars are among six teams who will finish playing the remainder of their second-round holes early tomorrow morning. They will then join the rest of the 12-team field to compete in a third and final round of 18 holes later in the day. BYU shot a first-round 301 (+13) and was at 11-over-par in the second to combine for 24-over before the round was stopped.

“We played like we were still trying to shake the winter off today,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “It was a tough day. Hopefully we can build some momentum tomorrow and shoot a decent score.”

Kelton Hirsch led the Cougars with a 73 (+1) in the first round and was at four-over-par through 12 holes in the second to end the day tied for 33rd. Peter Kuest currently sits tied for 44th with a combined eight-over-par while Carson Lundell sits tied for 49th after shooting a nine-over-par on the day.

Cole Ponich and Spencer Dunaway wrapped up the scoring for BYU, finishing the day tied for 54th and 57th places, respectively.
