PROVO, Utah - BYU men’s track and field will send five athletes to compete at the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week in Eugene, Ore. The meet will be held at Oregon’s Hayward Field and begins Wednesday, June 5, and runs through Saturday, June 8.

"The exciting about this nationals for us is everyone has a shot at making first-team All-American and scoring points," BYU coach Mark Robison said. "Everyone competing for us has NCAA championship meet experience, and that goes a long way."

Starting the meet off for the Cougars on Wednesday will be senior All-American Victor Weirich in the pole vault. The meet will be Weirich’s second NCAA outdoor championships. He took fourth to earn first-team All-America honors in 2011.

Ryan Waite and Curtis Carr will also compete in their respective semifinal rounds on Wednesday in the 800-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Waite is a four-time All-American and will compete in his third NCAA outdoor championships. Carr is making his NCAA Track and Field Championships debut, but has experience running at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

On Thursday All-Americans Jared Ward and Tylor Thatcher will compete in the 10,000-meter run finals. In 2012, Ward took fifth place in the same event. Thatcher received All-America honors in cross country and was a qualifier for the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships.
