PROVO -- After a week off the BYU softball team (9-6) returns to action at the Bulldog Classic in Fresno, Calif.

Having won only four of its last eight games, BYU head coach Gordon Eakin says the team has spent the week working on its focus, especially against the highly talented squads the Cougars continue to face.

"We've had a good week of practice," Eakin said. "We want to get better everyday, so we don't talk about wins and losses as much as are we getting better. But, the competition has been tough. Sometimes you have to work through some lumps to get where you want to get, and when you're off slightly against good competition, then you're in trouble."

BYU begins play on Thursday at 7 p.m. (PST) against the Bulldog Classic's host school, Fresno State. Friday features a double-header against Toledo at 11:30 a.m. followed by Purdue at 2 p.m.

The Cougars and the Boilermakers do battle once again on Saturday at 9 a.m., while a 2 p.m. game against Penn State on the same day rounds out the tournament for BYU.

"We're focusing on us and the things that we need to do to be successful," Eakin said. "I think we're ready to go."
