BYU announces women’s basketball 2022-23 schedule

PROVO, Utah – BYU head women’s basketball coach Amber Whiting released the 2022-23 non-conference schedule Thursday. 

With the West Coast Conference schedule released earlier, BYU's 2022-23 season schedule is set. 

BYU will play multiple NCAA Tournament and Power 5 teams during the non-conference slate and take part in one showcase tournament among the early season’s highlights. The schedule features six home games, five road games and two neutral-site contests.

Whiting is leading the Cougars into a new era of BYU women’s basketball after the retirement of long-time head coach Jeff Judkins and the graduation of four starters from 2021-22’s West Coast Conference championship team.   

The Cougars get some preseason competition with an exhibition contest against Westminster on Oct. 27 at the Marriott Center before opening the regular season on the road against Colorado State on Nov. 8. The Rams of the Mountain West played in the title game of the MW tournament last season.

BYU returns for its first home stand with Montana State Nov. 12 and then welcome the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Oklahoma edged BYU in overtime last season and finished the year 25-9, making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

A trip to Hawaii follows with two games at the North Shore Showcase hosted in Lai’e at BYU-Hawai’i. The Cougars will match up against the Pac-12’s Washington State on Friday, Nov. 18 and then play Troy from the Sun Belt on Saturday, Nov. 19. Both teams were postseason teams last year, with WSU earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament and Troy in the WNIT.

BYU will then return to Provo to host Carroll College, a 27-game winner last year in the NAIA and Ball State on Nov. 23 and Nov. 26, respectively, before a road game at Boise State on Dec. 1.

The in-state games are next with a trip to Logan for Utah State on Dec. 6 and then a date with Utah in the Marriott Center on Dec. 10. BYU swept the season series last year against the Aggies and Utes. Utah went to the NCAA Tournament last season as a No. 7 seed and advanced to the second round.

BYU will open its WCC season On Dec. 17 with a trip to Gonzaga followed by a road game at Portland Dec. 19 before getting in one more non-conference game against Monmouth in Provo on Dec. 21.

The Cougars then will enter the remainder of their league schedule after the Christmas break with Dec. 29’s game vs. Pacific.
