Riding a four-game winning streak, the Cougar women’s basketball team (7-3) plays one game at home this week. They host Portland State (5-3) Sat. Dec. 18 at 3 p.m.

The Vikings enter this week with a 5-3 record before traveling to Reno to play Nevada on Thurs. Dec. 16. Portland State returns nine letterwinners including three starters from last year’s squad that went 18-15, 9-7. Four players are putting up double digits in scoring for PSU led by 13.3 points from Courtney VanBrocklin who also tops the list in the rebound category grabbing 6.5 boards per game. She’s followed by Kelli Vallentine who averages 12.0 points and 4.6 rebounds. Next is Eryn Jones who contributes 11.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Rounding out the double figures in points is Shauneice Samms who tallies 10.0 points and 5.9 boards a game. The team’s assist leader is Jones with a total of 42 while VanBrocklin tops the list in the steals category with 11 to date. Head coach Sherri Murrell is in her fourth year at the helm of the Vikings women’s basketball program.
