Rounding out the week in league competition, the Cougar women’s basketball team (11-7, 3-1) returns to the Marriott Center for a Sat. Jan. 22 afternoon matchup with CSU (9-8, 2-2). Game time is set for 3 p.m.

-- The Cougars are led in scoring by senior guard Mindy Bonham who averages 11.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Senior forward Coriann Fraughton follows averaging 10.3 points and a team high 6.9 rebounds per contest.

-- Senior guard Haley Hall tops the assists and steals category with a total of 86 and 38 respectively.

-- Jazmine Foreman has the team’s best free throw percentage at .824, 28-34 while freshman center Jennifer Hamson is tops in the field goal percentage category at .631, 41-65.

-- The BYU bench has outscored its opponents 428 to 275 as of 1/20/11. The most points scored by the Cougar bench to date are 44 in the win over BYU-Hawaii on 12/3/10. The most bench points from an opponent on the year are 31 recorded by BYU-Hawaii.

RECORD WATCHING

-- BYU head coach Jeff Judkins has compiled a 191-106 record as of Jan. 20 and is nine wins away from picking up his 200th career victory.

-- Mindy Bonham has tallying a total of 1,092 points as of 1/20/11, which puts her in 18th place out of 20 on BYU’s 1,000-Points Club. She needs 31 points to tie for 17th place with Behka Stafford’s 1,123 total points.

-- Bonham has dished out a grand total of 378 career assists as of 1/20/11 which puts her tied for seventh place all time with Cindy Battistone’s career total of 378. She needs one to move into a tie for sixth place with Tomika Young’s 379, and is 54 assists away from tying for fifth place with current assistant coach Stacy Jensen’s 432.

 

-- Jazmine Foreman dished out two assists in the road game at TCU on 1/19/10, which gives her a career total of 356. She needs 22 to tie for eighth place with Cindy Battistone’s career total of 378.

-- In BYU’s number of games played category, Bonham and Foreman have played in a total of 109 games as of 1/20/11, which places the two tied for 17th place all time. They need to play in four more games to tie for 16th place with Cassie King’s 113 career contests played.

CSU GAME PROMOTIONS

It’s “Dance Day” vs. CSU. Mention the word “DANCE” at the ticket office and receive FREE admission! The BYU Ballroom Dance Team is performing at halftime.

ABOUT SATURDAY’S LEAGUE OPPONENT

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY

CSU is in fifth place in the latest MWC standings with a 9-8, 2-2 record. They beat UNLV 68-63 on Tues. Jan. 18. Head coach Kristen Holt is in her third year at the helm of the Rams women’s basketball program. On this year’s squad are four returning starters along with eight letterwinners. After four MWC games, CSU has two players scoring in double figures led by 13.3 points from junior guard/forward combo Kim Mestdagh. She also grabs 5.0 rebounds per contest. Sam Martin follows with 11.0 points and tops the list rebound category with 5.3 boards per contest.

Last Meeting

These two MWC foes played twice during last year’s conference race with the Cougars sweeping the series. In the first meeting, BYU won 67-58 in Ft. Collins on Jan. 16. In their second matchup in Provo, the Cougars picked up a 72-54 victory on Feb. 17.

WHAT’S NEXT

After the home game with CSU on Jan. 22, the Cougars travel to San Diego to battle the Aztecs on Jan. 26 before hosting the University of New Mexico on Jan. 29.
