Cougars move up to fourth at Wahine Invitational

KAPOLEI, Hawai’i — BYU women’s golf is in fourth place after shooting a three-under 285 in Tuesday’s second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

“I love how we came back today with a really solid round,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We will need another good one tomorrow to have a chance to win.”

The Cougars, who came into the day tied for seventh, carded the second-lowest team score Tuesday to move up the leaderboard. BYU heads into tomorrow’s final round 10 strokes behind current-leader Cal Poly.

Allysha Mae Mateo, Naomi Soifua and Annick Haczkiewicz each shot under-par Tuesday to pace the team. Mateo posted a team-low 70 (-2) while Soifua and Haczkiewicz both shot one-under 71’s. Soifua currently sits tied for 13th, followed by Mateo and Haczkiewicz, who are both tied for 16th.

Kerstin Fotu came next for the Cougars, carding a one-over 73 to end the day tied for 25th. Anna Kennedy shot an 80 (+8) and currently sits tied for 67th.

Following Cal Poly, Sacramento State and Sam Houston State round out the tournament’s top-three through two rounds. In-state foe Weber State is in eighth place.
