PROVO, Utah - BYU gymnastics released the 2018 schedule today made up of 14 meets, including competitions against three Pac-12 schools and one Big Ten team.

“I’m so excited about the 2018 gymnastics season,” BYU head coach Guard Young said. “We have some great teams coming and some awesome away meets to make up for a fantastic season for the Cougars.”

The annual Blue and White Intrasquad meet will be held Friday, Dec. 15. The Cougars will kick off the season against in-state rival University of Utah in Salt Lake City on Friday, Jan. 5 in one of the best arenas for collegiate gymnastics, the Huntsman Center.

BYU will compete against its second Pac-12 opponent the following week, hosting University of California, Berkeley on Friday, Jan. 12. This meet marks a homecoming for the Associate Head Coach at Berkeley, Elisabeth Crandall Howell, who competed for BYU from 1993 to 1996.

“We’re so excited to have Liz coming back to us,” Young said. “Cal Berkeley is a big-time program, and we love having that BYU connection with them.”

The Cougars finish January with two home meets. BYU first hosts in-state rival Southern Utah University on Friday, Jan. 19, and will then compete against Air Force on Friday, Jan. 26.

February starts off on the road at the University of Denver (Feb. 3) and in Cedar City for a second meet with the Thunderbirds (Feb. 9). The team returns home to face Denver and SUU on Feb. 16. The Cougars finish off the month hosting Boise State (Feb. 23) for the annual pink meet.

BYU will then compete against two more Pac-12 schools on the road, traveling to take on Oregon State (March 5) and University of Washington (March 15). The season’s quad meet will be held on March 9 against Utah State, Texas Women’s University and Big Ten powerhouse, Penn State.

“We are so excited to have these Pac-12 and Big Ten teams on our schedule,” said Young. “These are great teams for our girls to go up against.”

The season’s Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championships will be hosted at Southern Utah University on Saturday, March 24. The Cougars hope to advance to the NCAA Regionals and Nationals following the MRGC meet.
