No. 21 BYU prepares for home opener against Utah State

PROVO, Utah – Competing on home turf for the first time this season, No. 21 BYU invites No. 23 Utah State to battle in the Smith Fieldhouse on Friday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. MST.

MEET NOTES

Most recently, on Jan. 7, the two teams faced off at the Rio Tinto Best of Utah Meet in West Valley City, Utah. Utah State placed second (195.875) behind the current No. 2 University of Utah (197.100), with BYU placing third (195.225) and SUU fourth (195.000).

Meet Information

THE COUGARS. Currently ranked No. 21, BYU reached its season-high score of 196.425 in its meet against MRGC rival Southern Utah on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the America First Event Center in Cedar City, Utah. Senior Sadie Miner-Van Tassell competed for the All-Around (39.100) and received the MRGC Gymnast of the Week honor for the second week in a row. Anyssa Alvarado clinched the second-highest score on the uneven bars with a 9.925 to tie her career high. Senior Lexi Griffith notched a 9.875 on vault along with teammate Miner-Van Tassell to receive the shared MRGC Vault Specialist of the Week accolade.    

THE AGGIES. Currently ranked at No. 23, Utah State competed in a quad meet in Tucson, Arizona, on Friday, Jan. 21. The Aggies notched a 196.350 to receive second place, which marks the sixth-highest road score in school history. Utah State freshman Brie Clark earned her third-straight MRGC Floor Specialist of the Week honor after scoring a 9.925 on the event in the quad meet.  

Consistent with current BYU requirements, all in attendance will need to provide proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID test upon entry. Masks will also be required, regardless of vaccination status. Find more details at byu.edu/coronavirus
