BYU prepares for battle against No. 22 Southern Utah

PROVO, Utah — The BYU women’s gymnastics team continues its road tour on Friday evening when the Cougars travel to Cedar City to take on No. 22 Southern Utah.

Last season, BYU and SUU went 1-1 in regular season meets. The Cougars beat the Thunderbirds 197.225-197.000 at home in the Smith Fieldhouse on Feb. 18 with their highest team score of the 2022 season. 

THE THUNDERBIRDS. The Southern Utah Thunderbirds last competed at Boise State on Friday, Jan. 27 where they posted a 196.275-195.700 win over the Broncos. Ranked No. 22 nationally, the Thunderbirds have won three meets in a row. Graduate student Karley McClain has competed in the all-around and has earned MRGC Gymnast of the Week accolades every week of the 2023 season. 

THE COUGARS. The BYU Cougars last competed at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum against the Utah State Aggies, where they posted a new season-high score of 196.650 for the win. Freshman Kylie Eaquinto and senior Allix Mason shared MRGC honors on vault with individual scores of 9.850. Beam captain Elease Rollins posted a 9.925 on the beam for her second MRGC accolade of the 2023 season.
