SAN MATEO, Calif. - BYU women’s soccer freshman forward Allie Fryer was named West Coast Conference (WCC) Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore defender Daviana Vaka was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

No. 19 BYU faced Pepperdine and Gonzaga in conference play last week, securing two victories, moving them to 4-0-2 in the WCC. With the help of Fryer on offense and Daviana Vaka on defense, the Cougars are now ranked No. 2 in the WCC, and have moved up six spots in the RPI rankings to No. 13.

Fryer notched a brace in the game against Pepperdine, one of which was the game-winning goal against the Waves with a final score of 4-3. Another close game against the Zags proved Fryer’s tenacity as she walked away with yet another game-winning goal on South Field Saturday night, 2-1. She is now tied with teammates Jamie Shepherd and Olivia Wade with six goals on the season. In the last five games, Fryer has produced three game-winners as an offensive force on the pitch.

In the match against the Gonzaga Bulldogs Saturday evening, Daviana Vaka tallied an assist, her first of her BYU career, and had a defensive stop in the 75th minute that secured the victory for the Cougars. A shot was fired by the Zags, forcing Daviana Vaka to clear the ball out from danger as she stood ready on the goal-line.
