Milwaukee, WI -- Although BYU's women's soccer team had a 1-0 lead at halftime, it could not hold off a very determined Marquette team who came from behind to beat the Cougars 2-1, Friday.
Senior Natalyn Lewis scored in the 21st minute of the game for BYU on a breakaway after getting a pass from teammate Farrah Hofheins.
"We played well for the first 20 minutes and after that we couldn't score and no one stepped up," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "This was a very disappointing loss. We have to be more consistent and cannot give up saveable goals. In all three of our losses, we outplayed and outshot our opponents and we can't continue to give up points."
Even though BYU outshot the Golden Eagles 22 to nine, they could not stop Marquette whose two scores came off corner kicks in second half action. The win improves Marquette's record to 7-1, while BYU falls to 6-3 on the year.
The Cougars remain in Milwaukee for a game against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Saturday afternoon.
