Netters take three matches in Cal Invitational

BERKELEY -- After a rough weekend at the Cal Nike Invitational, the BYU women’s tennis team pulled away with three singles victories in the consolation draws.

Megan Price beat Marianne Jodoin in the consolation quarterfinals of the Gold Singles bracket 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7).

In the consolation quarterfinals of the Blue Singles draw, Elle Carney won 6-2, 6-2 against San Jose State’s Anna Guzman. Elizaveta Ezhova lost to Sacramento State’s Alina Savchuk.

Andie Young made it through her consolation semifinal match defeating Santa Clara University’s Elaine Chesoni 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles, Callie Craig and Price fell in the Gold Doubles quarterfinals to Cal’s Jana Jurikova and Mari Andersson 8-4.

Ezhova and Carney lost in the consolation quarterfinals of the Blue Doubles bracket in a close 9-8 (11) match.

In the White Doubles draw, Young and Kelsie Craig lost 8-1 to Ania Jeczmionka of Long Beach State and Florence DeVrye of Nevada in the semifinals.

The Cougars compete next at the UCSB Invitational October 8 and 9.
