Women's distance records three top-10 times in 5k at Stanford

PROVO, Utah — Jenna Hutchins, Lexy Halladay-Lowry and Aubrey Frentheway each recorded program top-10 times in the 5,000-meters as they highlighted performances from BYU women’s track and field athletes at both the Texas Relays and Stanford Invitational on Friday.

Cobb Track and Angell Field | Palo Alto, California

BYU runners filled three of the top-10 spots in Section One of the 5000, with Hutchins leading the way in fourth at 15:35.73. The freshman from Johnson City, Tennessee snagged fourth over Iowa State’s Cailie Logue (15:36.40) and surpassed Erica Birk-Jarvis (2019) for No. 3 all-time at BYU.

Halladay-Lowry crossed over a second in front of Oregon State’s Kaylee Mitchell, taking seventh at 15:47.16 to rank No. 6 all-time at BYU. Frentheway took ninth and set a personal-best 15:48.56 while moving to the Cougars’ seventh-fastest ever in the event. The senior from Cheyenne, Wyoming crossed the finish with a nine-second lead over 10th-place finisher Tori Herman of No. 15 Kentucky.

Claire Seymour, Riley Chamberlain and Sadie Sargent each recorded top-5 finishes in their respective 1,500-meter sections. Seymour clocked a personal-best 4:16.12 to come in fourth in Section One while the freshman Chamberlain ran 4:18.31 to win Section Two. Sargent claimed Section Two's fourth spot at 4:20.41.

Each of the four BYU women competing in Section Two of the 3,000-meter steeplechase recorded personal bests. Madi Moffitt shaved nearly nine seconds off her previous best to take fourth at 10:15.68. Allie Warner clipped off just under 16 seconds to come in sixth at 10:15.89. Lizzie Dildine and Destiny Everett took seventh and 13th, respectively, with personal records of their own.

Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays

After weeks of training in Provo’s winter confines, defending women’s javelin national champion Ashton Riner-Lunt got back on the field and threw 51.87-meters/170-2 to take eighth on Friday.

Adaobi Tabugbo, Marianne Barber, Jaslyn Gardner and Annalise Hart teamed-up to clock 45.37 in the opening round of the 4x100-meter relay. The Cougars took 18th but did finish 0.14 seconds ahead of a Purdue squad that entered the weekend ranked 10th nationally. Tabugbo and Hart were part of the women’s 4x100 school record team a season ago as they clocked 44.63 at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona.

Tabugbo ran in the 100-meter hurdles’ first round as well. The junior from Laurel, Maryland faced a difficult field of competition including Leah Phillips and Alia Armstrong of No. 1 LSU as well as Howard’s Darci Khan. Tabugbo finished 21st at 13.52.

BYU wraps up the weekend’s competition with events beginning at Texas Relays on Saturday at 11 a.m. CDT and at Stanford at 2:15 p.m. PDT.
