Boise, Idaho.--Led by freshman Nicole Newren's 73 BYU's JV squad shot a first-round 316 at the Boise State Invitational on Monday.
"It 's great that our younger girls can get the experience of playing in a collegiate tournament," BYU head coach Gary Howard said. "I was impressed with how well Nicole and Merrilyn (Gibbs) played today."
Gibbs shot a first round 78 while fellow Cougars Sunny Pendleton and Sara Bridges shot 85 and 80 respectively.
