Final AFA Game Canceled

PROVO -- After an hour rain delay and a hint of blue sky, the storm started again and ended the BYU's chances of playing Saturday's baseball series finale against the Air Force Academy.

The rain came down all morning, but let up for just over an hour. The original game time of 1 p.m. was pushed back to just after 2 p.m., but to no avail. The grounds crew peeled the tarp off of the infield and began preparations, but the rain returned just after the last foul line was chalked.

"We had a good opportunity," said BYU Coach Vance Law. "They used their projected starter (Erik Fisher) to close the game last night and our staff was well rested."

BYU, now 17-24-1 overall and 10-10 in the Mountain West Conference, split two games with Air Force, now 22-22 overall and 9-11 in the MWC.

There are no plans for the BYU-Air Force game to be re-scheduled. MWC rules do not allow for makeup of canceled games if it the last meeting of the season between the two teams.

The Cougars next play on Thursday, May 2. They will face UNLV in Provo starting at 7 p.m.
