ALBUQUERQUE -- In their first tournament of the 2002-03 season, BYU finished seventh at the William Tucker Invitational.
Sophomore Greg Machtaler led the way with his third career top-20 finish as he went one-under-par. Machtaler placed sixth overall while true freshman teammate Daniel Summerhays fired a five-under 67 in the final round to place 21st.
Machtaler's consistent three rounds and Summerhays' 67 were the highlights for a young Cougars squad.
"We had a lot of bright spots in this tournament," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "Even though we are a young team, there is good chemistry building and I'm anxious to see how we continue to improve."
Sophomore Ron Harvey Jr. also had a good first tournament finishing 31st and going 68-79-75--222.
The Cougars will have little rest as they travel immediately to Frisco, Texas where they will compete in the Sooner Invitational on Sept. 16-17.
