Cougar Matches on BYU Radio, Television and via Live Stats Webcasts

PROVO, Utah -- Thanks to new web features and additional broadcast services, Cougar volleyball fans will have more opportunities than ever before to follow BYU throughout the 2002 season.

Thanks to a new partnership between the BYU Athletic Department and BYU Broadcast Services, eight women's volleyball matches can be heard on the newly created BYU Radio. Four matches are being televised on BYU Television and KBYU-TV.

In addition, BYU will provide a "live stats" webcast of most home matches and some away matches during the season. Fans can find out which matches are offered via televison, radio or webcast by selecting the 2002 schedule from the women's volleyball homepage. Matches offered on BYU Radio will be listed with a live audio link while matches with webcasts are listed with a live stats link.

BYU Radio, sister to BYU Television, was born in 2002 out of Bonneville International's LDS Radio Signal. The station officially launched August 1, 2002, bringing its programming to home, computers, and televisions all over the world. BYU Radio is available 24-hours per day on the Dish Network, channel 980 (extended package) and is also available on the Internet at www.byuradio.org/streaming.

"We have been laying the ground work for this partnership for several months," said Duff Tittle, BYU associate athletic director for communications. "We are really excited about the national and even global exposure BYU Radio will bring to BYU Athletics."

The first live sports broadcast on BYU Radio took place on Thursday, September 5, as the BYU women's volleyball team took on No. 3 USC in the Smith Fieldhouse. A second volleyball match was broadcast two days later when the Cougars took on the No. 6 Florida Gators.

In addition to women's volleyball, BYU will air live broadcasts of the entire women's basketball season, select conference games in baseball and softball, as well as some men's volleyball matches. BYU has also created an unique partnership with KSL Radio in Salt Lake City, that will allow BYU Radio to air taped-delayed broadcasts of football and men's basketball games.

"We are excited about the opportunity to provide BYU athletic events to our listening audience," said John Reim, CEO and general manager of BYU Broadcasting. "BYU has one of the best athletic programs in the country and we are looking forward to a successful partnership."

Veteran broadcaster, Jay Monsen will provide play-by-play commentary for most of the women's volleyball and women's basketball games. Monsen is well know for his years of broadcasting BYU sports on KBYU.

In addition to the Dish Network and the Internet, BYU Radio is available as the SAP channel on BYU Television to All-American Cable System subscribers in the Mesa, Arizona area (channel 97). For "backyard" dish owners BYU Radio is also available on a digital receiver at the following coordinates: Telestar 5, transponder 11; Downlink Frequency: 3934.8 MHz; Data Rate: 3.648 Mb/s; Symbol Rate: 2.639 MS/s; FEC: 3/4 (BYU Radio is on the second audio PID).

Information about the Dish Network is available at www.byuradio.org/getbyuradio/.

BYU Radio's primary signal includes musical, devotional, and sports programming. In addition to BYU Athletic events, daily programming includes, BYU devotionals and forums; CES and Church firesides; General Conference broadcasts and rebroadcasts; BYU Education Week and Women's Conferences; BYU musical performances; Music and the Spoken Word; and LDS-themed music and related performances.
