PROVO -- The BYU softball team swept cross-town rival UVSC in Orem 5-2, 3-0, Wednesday. The team is now 9-1 in their fall exhibition schedule.
The pitching staff shined by giving up only two runs for the afternoon. Senior Cynthia Fallowfield pitched six innings in the first game. Freshman Brooke Boyce relieved in the seventh inning to seal the win..
In game two of the double header, sophomore Niki Andersen threw a one-hitter in all seven innings of play. Sophomore Oli Keohohou smashed a home run and added a triple. Freshman Ashlyn Russell also hit a home run. The Cougars played both games without senior outfielder Brooke Cadiente.
"We played with some injuries, but managed to put out a couple of wins with quality pitching," said head coach Gordon Eakin.
The Cougars will finish their fall exhibition schedule against Dixie College this weekend in St. George with a double header starting at 5 p.m. Friday and one game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
